NSTLMP3 : 2026 : "Cultivating Roots"
Artist DeJoniero Jones
“To me, ‘Cultivating Roots’ is providing an avenue and organic ecosystem for local Artists. What that looks like is having a physical space for them to work out of and hold events, exhibitions, and performances for all disciplines of the Arts. We need such places available at short notice. We need such places to accommodate upcoming artists. Art is for the masses not the classes, and my hope is to share my Art with a wider audience.”
The Art of DeJoneiro Jones explodes with energy in an exploration of historical and contemporary visual language. Through painting and multimedia work he touches on the social nuances of the world while inviting the viewer to think about travel, commerce, history, and family.
Jones’s artwork grounds a new understanding of past and present, private and public, right and wrong. Racial and socioeconomic tensions make way for a space of introspection from which we cannot land on any definitive solution. Jones’s artwork confronts us and compels us to reassess our identities as both individuals and members of a tumultuous human whole.

Artist Darnell Chambers
“Cultivating Roots in our lives, in this space and place” speaks to my commitment to understanding how history, community, identity, and creativity shape where we come from and where we are going. My practice connects personal ancestry with the cultural landscapes of Pittsburgh and St. Louis, using art as a tool for storytelling, preservation, and reconnection. Through murals, exhibitions, teaching, curation, and community-based projects, I've learned to create opportunities for people to recognize the value of their own stories and surroundings. For me, cultivating roots means nurturing relationships, honoring those who came before, and creating spaces where future generations can grow, imagine, and thrive.
Darnell Chambers is a contemporary visual artist working in Pittsburgh and St. Louis, whose work reflects a lifelong commitment to creative expression and community engagement. Working across painting and collaborative public art, Chambers explores themes of culture, identity, history, and social connection through bold compositions and vibrant color. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and public spaces, including collaborative mural projects, and he has contributed to arts education and community-based initiatives that make art more accessible.

NSTLMP1 : 2020 : "1, 2, 3, Time for Me"
The North St. Louis Mindfulness Project was created during the 2020 Pandemic as a stress relief solution for our community. Posters with a simple introduction to meditation titled, “1,2,3, Time for Me” were hung in local shops and gathering spots. Artist Simiya Sudduth created the posters and a short, beat filled meditation which easily engages the listener in meditation practice. We held a mindfulness gathering and meditation on the grounds of a historic Carnegie Library in North St. Louis during the Summer Solstice of 2020.
The initial offering was funded by The Deaconess Foundation via Hyde Park Atelier of the Arts & Sciences, 501(c)(3).
NSTLMP2 : 2023 : "Mindful Joy"
The second round of NSTLMP was created as we explored community development in our region and sought to aid our neighbors with an idea that might spark mindful engagement with life. This decade has been challenging on Earth. The simplest thing we can aim for is for us all to find some Joy, in a mindful way.
With Artist DeJoneiro Jones we created a poster and journaling notebook which prompts us to seek that mindful joy and harness it in our lives. We also presented qr code links to information about our organizations and the mindful, inclusive World Heritage Museum we are working to develop in St. Louis: The Musaeum Library.
The second iteration was funded by the Neighborhood Leadership Academy via Civic Arts Development Corporation.
